I haven't had time to post a college update in a while so I thought that, since the term is over, I would do one big post about the rest of my time there, rather than lots of little ones. In some ways, time has flown by since I last wrote, in other ways it seems to have taken a lifetime to get home.
The fall foliage was, of course, spectacular! It was so nice to look out of my window and see the hills covered in shades of orange, red and yellow. In fact, just being on the campus, no matter what weather, was really lovely. It is really gorgeous.
If I ever needed a break from work or people it was nice to be able to take a walk in the woods. While I got cold a lot, it was nice to be able to wear a lot of the wool things I had, such as turtlenecks and gloves, which I never really wore back home.
We had lots of wonderful coffee hours, with very fun themes. There was "bro" coffee hour, "white trash" coffee hour, and my personal favorite "dress as someone else in the house" coffee hour.
The food, while not always ideal, was good for the most part. There were days when I couldn't find anything I wanted to eat and there were others where everything looked good. It was really hit or miss. I must say that I'm glad to be home and have my own food again.
I took tons and tons of pictures for my photography class. I did a ten print final for the class on night photography and movement, which I am very happy with! Unfortunately they haven't arrived in the mail yet or else I would post some. Mailing things back and forth from college is getting a little frustrating...
Being in the student written and directed play, Lena's Scissors, was really great. It was a good way to meet other people in the drama department as well as perform for lots of different people. We performed at a cafe, grade school, and a farmers market, as well as several performances on campus. Everyone in the cast was so wonderful to be around and I made some great friends. We all had so much fun and I look forward to participating in more shows in the future.
I also had the pleasure of being cast in a scene for a directing class. All of the directors cast actors in the scenes they are working on. I was cast in a scene from the play August: Osage County. It was a lot of fun, but a lot of work as well. I wish I had some pictures from the show, but I wasn't able to get my hands on any.
I got to spend long weekend, which was in October, in New York City. I said with Mary at Julliard for two days, which was a real treat. She got me into some of her classes, like ballroom dancing and this intense workout class. It was neat to see what a day is like for her at Julliard and how different it was from Bennington. I spent the next two days with my friend Sara at her appartment in the city. We had such a good time and she showed me all of her favorite places throughout the city. It was her birthday, so we got to go to her family's really nice restaurant, Nick and Toni's.
The roommate situation in the quad where I lived was quite chaotic. We went from having four of us in one room to two of us. Rachel moved up stairs, and Grace moved out of the house. It was quite an ordeal, but I think Elise and I got the good end of the stick by ending up with a giant room for the two of us.
One of my old roommates, Rachel , found a big tomato caterpillar which we took care of for a while. He was very friendly and we named him Ferdinand.
For Halloween this year, I decided to be Audrey Hepburn in the movie Funny Face. I really love the movie and I thought it would be a fun costume! I got together with a bunch of my friends and we had a lovely time.
Getting to experience snow was really cool. The first snow was very lite, but we had several more snow falls which were heavier! I got to participate in several snow ball fights and had so much fun running around in the snow.
The faculty produced production of Angels in America at Bennington was really amazing. The sets and costumes were wonderful as was the acting. The main actor would played Prior was just fantastic. It was such a huge undertaking and I was so impressed with the outcome.
I got to go back to New York City for Thanksgiving break. My and I stayed with Mary at her friends apartment in the West Village. It was such a cool neighborhood which I hadn't gotten to explore before. My and I spent lots of time just wondering the streets and finding new places to visit. We went to have Thanksgiving dinner at one of Mary's family friends houses. They were all actors and we had a blast talking, eating and playing charades.
During the last weekend of the term I got to visit the coolest bookstore. It is a New England Book Barn, which is a perfect name because it is literally an old barn, filled with books. My friend described it to me as a "temple of books" and it really feels like that. I had the best time and I can't wait to go back!
Packing up my room, was a bit of a pain. Just when you've gotten all settled into the room, you have to pack it all up again. Because I didn't bring a very big suitcase, I was left with no choice but to ship a lot of my stuff home. This meant hours of packing everything into boxes and hauling it over to the mail room. Thankfully I had Meg to help me with everything.
One thing I'll really miss about school is all of the lovely friends I made. Everyone was so nice and I feel like I've known a lot of people for years. There's Meg, who was in both Lena's Scissors and the directing scene with me. We became great friends over the term and spent many hours watching movies, talking and going on adventures in town. I met Izzy through a series of weird events. She is from LA to and in fact, her mom bee-keeps with my mom. We became best buddies and I'm so happy to have her as a friend. It's been nice getting to see her in LA as well. Sara, who had French with me and shared in many wonderful New York adventures. And of course, there's Marina and Morgana who were my best friends the first couple weeks of school. They are so nice and always manage to make things more fun. All of the people in my house are really wonderful, they are always in a good mood and ready to have tea, watch a good movie or bake something delicious.
For the flight home my great friend Izzy and I decided we would fly home together. It made the long journey much more fun having her there. We had to drive to Albany, take a bus to NYC, a cab to the airport, a flight to Denver Colorado and another flight to LAX. It was quite long, but we managed to have a good time.
