Classes Begin

Classes began on Wednesday of the second week. I had French in the morning and photography in the afternoon. I was really excited about French because I've always loved the language and I couldn't wait to start learning. However I found the language much harder than I would have expected!

Photography was really excited, we talked about photographers and cameras. I was really excited to learn about black and white film, developing and making contact sheets.
The rest of my classes throughout the week went good as well. I had "Working with Light" which is a a lighting design class, and "The Actors Instrument" which is an acting and technique class.
The week went really well! It was hard to wake up so early for the morning classes, but I didn't have too much homework so I didn't have many late nights.

The theater company Bread and Puppets Theater came to visit the school and did a little performance for us! It was really fun to watch and the puppets were so cool! They did some puppets that were featured in the film "Across the Universe." I had a really great time.

We also had our another coffee hour! This weeks theme was "tourist." So we all dressed up and took and tour of the other houses.

Bennington College

Hello everyone!
I am settled and well here at Bennington College. I've decided to try and do weekly posts letting everyone know whats going on and how things are! This post will be about week one, but I'll do another one later about three.

Week One:
I left home on Tuesday with dad. We spent all day traveling, taking two flights and then driving from Albany to Bennington. In the town of Bennington we stayed at a little motel called "The Knotty Pine" which felt very Twin Peaks like. We spent Wednesday driving around and exploring the town and surrounding countryside.

Orientation began on Thursday, so dad and I arrived on campus at 9am. The campus is really gorgeous and the people are so sweet. This made me much less nervous and worried than I had been before arriving. I moved in and met my lovely roommates; Grace, Rachel and Elise.

The next few days were a slew of orientation games, activities and learning people's names. I found that after the third time hearing someone's name I was able to remember it.
On Friday we had our first Coffee Hour. Coffee Hour is a Bennington tradition that happens every Sunday, but due to the fact that it was our first week, we had it earlier on. Coffee Hour is basically a meeting with all of the people in our house (I live in a house called Sawtell) where announcements about the following week are made, issues are discussed, and usually there is some sort of activity. Coffee Hour is always themed. Two people put on Coffee Hour every week and plan a theme such as "teen sleepover" and then serve refreshments in that theme. People also dress up in the theme. Its very fun, but because there are so many people in the house, it can be a little cramped. There was also a pretty neat bonfire on campus, which was really huge!

Hurricane Irene hit on Sunday, which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It felt like a normal storm, with lots of rain. We lost power for a few hours at night, but even that wasn't a big deal because everyone got together and had an Open Mic night. Which is basically a talent show without prizes.

I've made some really nice friends on campus. Most of them live in my house, which makes hanging out together really easy.
